Ryan Humphrey

My name is Ryan Humphrey. I was born in Wisconsin, but was raised and still reside here in Minnesota, the Land of Owls.

In 2017, after buying my first ever camera, I stumbled upon my first ever Owl, a Barred Owl. That day I absolutely fell in love with owls. And after that day I started networking with other owl lovers all over the state. I learned of all of the species that reside here, and how to look for them. And year after year I started to find more owls. The more I learned, the more I found.

These days I probably spend more time looking for and photographing owls than most people spend working and sleeping. I go out during the day and during the night. I go out when other people won’t, and do it all with a passion only a few would ever understand. I am truly Owl Obsessed.

  • All day multi species Tour – $300 per individual (Sun up to Sun down) *Max of 6 individuals
  • Night workshop (finding owls at night) – $150 per individual (3 hours long, start time varies) *Max of 3 individuals, +not available in Sax-Zim Bog+

My friend and I arrived to be greeted warmly by Ryan and he immediately set the tone for an incredible adventure by informing us he had already found a Northern Saw-Whet Owl for us to photograph.

The excitement continued as Ryan guided us through the forest to locate 3 long-eared owls. Later, we moved to an open field where we observed many Short-Eared owls hunting—another unforgettable experience.

Ryan’s thoughtfulness extended beyond the owls. He brought us to a fantastic Mexican restaurant for a quick dinner before embarking on an enchanting night search. The clear, starry skies and the sight of the Milky Way made the experience even more magical. Ryan’s incredible skill allowed us to spot another Northern Saw-Whet Owl, observing it peacefully in its night time environment.
